Welcome to Shangri-La! When you land at Shangri-La Airport, a local guide will be already waiting for you at the arrival hall, and then then transfer you to your hotel by a charter car. Shangri-La gets an average elevation of 3,459 meters, which may give rise to different degrees of altitude stress. Take the rest of the day to get acclimatized to the environment. 

Tips: There are direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Lhasa, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing and Xishuangbanna. If leaving from other cities out of the above list, you could fly to Kunming or Dali first, and then make a land transfer to Shangri-La. 

After breakfast, you will head for the Songzanlin Lamasery by a private vehicle drive. Built in 1679, Songzanlin is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan Province. As a splendid ancient castle complex, the lamasery is also famed as a Little Potala perched at the hillside. Venture into the richly ornamented building to soak up the traditional Tibetan architecture and wonder at the abundant cultural relics inside.

Afterwards, move to the 1,800-year-old Dukezong Old Town. The town has a unique layout of a six-petal lotus flower, with Moonlight Square in the center clung by quaint Tibetan-style wood houses.

Then proceed to Guishan Park, the seat of the world’s biggest prayer wheel, where you will feel the authentic ambience of Tibetan Buddhism from the monk’s chanting.

At night, you could show up at the Moonlight Square where Tibetan locals may hit the floor with their lively folk group dance in the open air. You could join them if inspired by their enthusiasm.

Enjoy a day away from the hustling and bustling world with a morning adventure into the fairy-tale Potatso National Park. It is a real wonderland teeming with mirror-like alpine lakes, highland pastures and old-growth forest.

Bita Lake and Shudu Lake are two biggest charms of the park, linked by plank walkway for you to inhale the great nature and discover the diverse wildlife. Fully indulge yourself in the breathtaking and pure world, with flocks of yaks straying on the steppe, and smoke from kitchen chimneys whirling up in peaceful Tibetan Villages.

Then follow your guide to drop by a local Tibetan family to see how they live an undisturbed and primitive life in such an escape.

At last, you will be dropped back to your hotel for a good rest. 

Your dreamlike Shangri-La trip draws to a close today. Your thoughtful guide and driver will chauffeur you to the airport according to your scheduled flight. It’s time to say goodbye, and wish you a smooth journey home.
