Welcome to Guangzhou! Upon your arrival at the airport or railway station, your local guide and driver will meet you at the exit, and then escort you to your hotel. If your flight arrives early, you can spend the rest of the day exploring the nearby sites and streets.

After breakfast, sit back in your comfortable private vehicle to your first stop, Yuexiu Park. It is the largest park in Guangzhou where you could find the old city landmarks, the Five Rams Statue and Zhenhai Tower. 

Then visit the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to catch a sight of the octagon-shaped building with funds raised by local and overseas Chinese people in memory of Sun Yat-sen.

Move to Six-Banyan Temple to check out the centuries-old trees and cultural relics, and after that drop by the Tomb of Nanyue King that could date back to 2,000 years ago. The must-see is the king’s burial artifacts, especially the garment made of silk strings and jade pieces. 

Proceed to Shamian Island to have a glimpse of the concession buildings, and learn about the British and French influences on the design and décor of these villa architectures. Today’s sightseeing would be ended with a farseeing glance at the new landmark of Guangzhou, the Canton Tower with a remarkable height of 600 meters.

After breakfast, board your van for a 2-hour land transfer to Kaiping City that houses a great number of old blockhouses, Kaiping Diaolou, listed as UNESCO World Heritage site. Diaolou refers to multiple-storied village villas with defensive watchtowers built by rich Chinese emigrants returning from western countries. They build fortified residences to protect their wealth and womenfolk so that they could went back to dig gold. Most Diaolou towers are blessed with a fascinating blend of Chinese and Western architectural art. 

Today, your exploration starts with a visit to the Li Garden. Built in 1936, it is a private mansion covering 6 villas and a blockhouse. Roaming in the garden, you will find a perfect mix of traditional Chinese architecture and western byzantine element. 

Then continue your sightseeing to Zili Village where you can find the largest collection of blockhouses in Kaiping. Nestled amidst lush terraces, the cluster Diaolou are picturesque in a rural setting. Many of them are open to visitors, and you could have a peek at how the 1900s Chinese lived in their mansions.

Afterwards, you will be transferred to Chikan Ancient Town. Crossed by a lovely river, Chikan also features the fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles. The idyllic countryside makes the town an idea escape from Guangzhou. Roaming along the riverside lanes is like travelling back to the overseas Chinese life in 1980s.

In the last day of your Guangzhou tour, you may consider taking something home as gifts or souvenirs. Firstly, you will head for the bustling Beijing Road. It is one of the oldest and busiest commercial streets in Guangzhou, where you can not only find a lot of authentic local eats, but also meet a lot of shops for wears. The price is usually fair, and some of the shops offer bargain chances.

After that follows a visit to the Qingping Market famous for traditional Chinese medicinal materials. It is large bazaar with more than 1,500 shops selling a dazzling array of Chinese herbs and horns of animals as well as some tonic items. Cantonese have a tradition of adding the herbs into their stew to adjust their heath state according to seasons, which is an important part of their culinary culture.
