Erlitou Relic Museum of the Xia Capital Opens to Public in Luoyang China





The Erlitou Relic Museum in Luoyang central China officially opens to the public on Saturday, 19, October 2019, exhibiting archeological items to uncover the history and culture relic of ancient China’s first recorded dynasty of Xia (2070-1600 B.C.).
Covering an area of 32,000 square meters, Erlitou Relic Museum displays more than 2,000 articles from 3,500 to 3,800 years ago, mainly including bronze vessels, daily utensils, manufacturing tools, turquoises, pottery pots and jade wares as well as decorations.

Firstly discovered in 1959 in Luoyang by history expert Xu Xusheng, Erlitou is authenticated as the site of the capital city of the middle and late Xia Dynasty. Through 60 years' excavation and researches, Chinese archaeologists have unearthed over 10,000 items out of a total area of 40,000 square meters from the site. Construction of the museum cost 630 million yuan (about 89 million US dollars).
The museum received about 38,000 visitors on the first opening day, and the number climbed to 110,000 as of Sunday. Over 10 interpreters are employed to offer professional explanation of the rich relics and the history behind them.
Moreover, Erlitou Relic Museum would turn to an excellent cultural heritage site and a research center to demonstrate the origin of Chinese civilization.
