Corner Tower Café at Forbidden City Goes Viral in Beijing

On December 1, 2018, Corner Tower Café opens at the Shenwu Gate of Forbidden City and quickly becomes a hot spot for visitors home and abroad. The biggest highlights of the café is that one could experience the culture of the Forbidden City and enjoy the latest imperial coffee without buying a ticket into the Place Museum.
The Corner Tower Café is designed to match with the architecture style of the Forbidden City and the interior décor is inspired by traditional Chinese imperial court. The coffee shop has outfitted 19 set of wooden tables and chairs, with fascinating partition screens printed with classic Chinese paintings.

The most eye-catching part is the wallpaper with A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, a China's landscape painting masterpiece by Wang Ximeng in Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). It is said that the decor of the café will be renewed from time to time based on the themes of the exhibitions in the Palace Museum.
The café is scheduled to open from 8 am to 7 pm, and it sees long queues in the afternoon. There are more than 30 kinds of beverages for visitors to choose from, such as chocolate latte, hot chocolate, black tea latte, bergamot lemon tea and lychee black tea. These drinks are even given names closely associated with imperial court culture like Kangxi's Favorite Hot Chocolate, Yangxin Coffee, 3,000 Beauties Tea and Concubine Smiles. Beside the coffee and deserts, you can also buy some Palace Museum souvenirs like stamps, fans, notebooks, calendars and postcards.
