China Eastern Airlines Allows Wifi Use on Board since Jan. 17

On Jan. 17, 2018, China Eastern Airlines becomes the first domestic air company to allow passengers taking their flights to connect inflight WIFI to use portable electronic devices including mobile phones, pads, laptops and e-book readers on board by the premise that all the devices need to be on airplane mode and keep the cellular data service shut. Passengers could connect to inflight WI-FI to access the Internet, enjoying webpage browse, film watching, instant communication, online shopping, email sending & receiving. Especially for the long-haul international flight, internet connectivity gives the journey more fun, and help passengers forget the discomforts of their knees and waists.

However, the inflight Internet service might be shut temporarily or throughout the whole journey out of consideration for safety troubles caused by weather, airplane location, crossing polar region, satellite switch, browser restriction, VPN restriction, etc. Meanwhile, if the flight crew found electronic jamming and suspect the interference from electronic devices on board, the flight crew shall have the right to shut down these portable devices.
Internet service of China Eastern Airlines is included in international flights from Shanghai to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver, and domestic flights from Shanghai to Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, and Chongqing.
