Largest Danxia Landform Belt Discovered in Shaanxi, Northwest China

In October 2017, Geologists have discovered a new type of Danxia landforms characterized by red sandstone beds in Shaanxi Province, known as the largest Danxia landform site in China. The newly discovered landscape forms a reddish S-shape belt, extending about 750 kilometers from the north to the south and covering an area of more than 4,000 square kilometers. The red landscape belt mainly traverses across Ganquan, Zhidan & Ansai counties of Yanan, Jingbian of Yulin, Shenmu and Fugu City.

Geologists claims that this Danxia landform was evolved from 100 million years ago that could be dated back to the Jurassic Period. Danxia landscape cluster found in Shaanxi distinguishes themselves a lot from the ones in south China by unique wave valleys, isolated peaks, naturally shaped bridges and giant stone mushrooms. Especially in Jingbian County, a large Danxia wonder featuring a red wave-textures landscape shapes an awe-inspiring Valley of Waves out of sandstones cut and polished by millions of years of wind, water and time, which could be in parallel with the wave canyon of red sandstones in America.
These newly investigated Danxia sites are mostly located in rugged rural area of Shaanxi, which cannot be easily reached by public transport and really under-developed so far. Therefore, there is no organized tour package for visitors to witness this wonder now. However, China boasts an array of Danxia spectacles with better exploration experiences somewhere else. For example, you could marvel at the Rainbow Mountain at Zhangye lying on the ancient Silk Road, Danxia Mountain in Guangdong Province, Mount Qingcheng in the outskirts of Chengdu, and Mt. Wuyi in Fujian Province. Elysiantour.com offers tailor-made tours covering these Danxia attractions listed above, and free inquiry is welcomed.
