Baggage Allowance & Policy of China Airlines
Luggage is the guarantee for an easy and comfortable trip in China. Before departure, you'd better do some research on the luggage allowance of Chinese airlines, and this article can provide you with the most practical information on baggage allowance, restrictions, fees and charges for your air journey in China.

Your carry-on baggage allowance is specified by your class of service. Every carry-on baggage shall not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Economy passengers are allowed to carry on one bag with the maximum weight of 5kg into the cabin, while first class and business class passengers could board the plane with two pieces of carry-on baggage up to 8kg for each. Any overweight or oversized baggage shall be carried as checked baggage. All carry-on bags could be stored on the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you.

In addition to the above-mentioned cabin baggage, each passenger may carry one piece of the following personal items free of charge:
Personal items include:
- Umbrella
- Handbag or wallet
- Mobile phones and laptop computer
- Small camera and/or pair of binoculars
- A reasonable number of duty-free items
- Infant's napkins, feeding bottle and medicines
- A reasonable amount of reading material
- Food contained in disposable packaging
Your airfare covers the free checked baggage allowance. The weight allowance of your luggage vary between different cabin classes.
Domestic Flights

Note:
1. The length, width and height of each piece of baggage shall not exceed 100 cm (40 in), 60 cm (24 in) and 40 cm (16 in).
2. For the passengers with adult ticket or child ticket, the baggage allowance is 20 kg for Economy Class, 30 kg for Business Class and 40 kg for First Class.
3. Infant passengers can enjoy the baggage allowance of 10 kg, plus a foldable baby stroller or cradle checked for free.
International Flights

Note:
1. The length, width and height of each piece of baggage shall not exceed 158cm (62in) in total.
2. First/Business class adult and child passengers may check in two pieces of baggage for free, each weighing up to 32 kg.
3. Economy Class passengers traveling may check in one or two items of baggage for free, each weighing up to 23 kg. The number of the allowed pieces is varied in different regions and air routes.

If you have excess or overweight baggage, there will be an extra fees calculated per kilo based on the mileage. The rate is 1.5% of an adult economy class fare for Chinese domestic routes. Moreover, the overweight baggage rates and calculation methods on international routes depend on the baggage policies of different airlines. You could check on the details on their official websites.
1. Following items are not advisable to be carried in your checked baggage:
Important or business documents, mobile phones, computers, cameras, electronic equipment, cameras, securities, currency, bank draft, jewelry, valuable metal and metalwork, curio, calligraphy and paintings, samples, travel insurance, and medicine that should be taken timely.
2. Pets - Dogs and Cats
Small Animals are mostly defined as domesticated dogs and cats, not including wildlife or ferocious animals like mastiff, snake or bulldog. Small animals are not allowed to be taken into the cabin, but could be carried as checked baggage in the cargo compartment of the aircraft and charged as special baggage. The valid health and vaccination certificates of small animals are must-have to board the plane. Passengers who need to travel with animals shall contact their airlines beforehand.
3. Liquids and Cosmetics
Liquid items are prohibited from carriage in carry-on baggage but can be placed in checked baggage. Liquid items must be packed in a way that is in compliance with relevant provisions on air transport.

A reasonable quantity of cosmetics and personal care products is allowed in carry-on baggage. For each type of cosmetics and personal care products, only one piece is allowed and its container cannot exceed 100 ml in volume. All items must be placed in transparent bags for inspection.
Passenger who travels with infant can request infant service at the time of ticket purchase, and onboard the crew can offer formula for the infant for free. Liquid medications for passengers with diabetes or other serious medical conditions are subject to inspection and shall be in the custody of the flight attendants.
4. Lithium Battery
If the lithium battery of your Mobile phones, laptops, cameras and backup batteries do not exceed 100Wh, they could be carried as carry-on baggage. Moreover, the electronic devices with batteries exceeding 100Wh but not exceeding 160Wh may be carried on board, but each passenger shall not carry more than two backup batteries of these devices. Electronics with batteries over 160Wh are prohibited to take onto the plane.

- Explosives, munitions, fireworks, and flares
- Safe boxes/boxes incorporating goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnics
- Kerosene, Kerosene heater, electric kerosene heater
- Compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable, or poisonous) such as butane, propane, scuba diving cylinders, lighter fuels, or refills
- Oxidizing substances such as bleaching powder and peroxides
- Flammable liquids such as paints and adhesives
- Flammable solids such as safety matches and articles that are easily ignited
- Disabling devices such as mace or pepper sprays, with irritant properties
- Poisons such as arsenic, cyanide, or insecticide
- Radioactive materials
- Corrosive materials such as mercury (which may be contained in thermometers or blood pressure gauges), acid/alkaline wet batteries
- Any other substances which, during a flight, present a danger not covered above, such as magnetized, offensive, or irritating materials
- Hoverboard, self-balancing scooters, electric scooters are prohibited on both carry-on baggage and checked baggage.
- Travel-kit size power bank, Travel-kit recharge case.
- Large batteries or electronic devices with batteries exceeding 160Wh
Following items cannot be placed in carry-on baggage, and you can only travel on air with them as checked baggage.
- Knives (including hunting knives, swords, and pocket knives)
- Scissors and any other sharp/bladed objects prohibited by local law, such as ice picks, and nail clippers
- Weapons such as whips, nunchakus, batons, or stun guns
- Cudgels, tools and agricultural equipment, such as axes, screwdrivers, chains, or hoes
- Toys guns/gun shaped items or look-alikes, and handcuffs
- Sports equipment such as baseball/cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, and billiard cues
- Aerosols (hair sprays, perfumes, medicines containing alcohol) not exceeding 0.5 kg/liter per article and 2.0 kg/liter in total weight
- Any other items which are deemed security hazards by local law
